Is anyone ever going to sign him? I heard an interesting thought the other day in regard to Texas. They are kicking the tires on signing Josh Hamilton to an extension... but at the same time could be weighing whether or not they would rather have Prince long-term. They could possibly sign Prince to a long deal, have an expanded payroll this season, and then let Hamilton walk at seasons end. Interesting concept. Prince is younger I believe, and far less injury prone.

As much as I would like it to be the Nationals, Texas makes too much sense. Related to this, I had recently read an article which basically concluded that the NL will be pushed into accepting the DH soon. It essentially said that Pujols was a much safer long term deal for the Angels than the Cardinals simply due to the flexibility of using a DH as elite players get older. Similarly, it discussed that Prince was a much safer play for an AL team, particularly given his weight and potential longer term wear and tear. Of course, you could use the same argument to say Texas can keep an injury prone player like Hamilton.
Essentially, the article argued that it will be the NL team owners who will start to push for the DH given the 9 figure contracts and long duration of the contracts.
What do you think? Overall, I would hate to see the DH in both leagues. While I appreciate the extra offense and being able to watch some of the aging stars in the AL, the NL has so much more strategy.

I completely agree about the DH. It just makes too much sense for the NL to adopt it. Being able to keep the older players around longer and being able to compete with AL teams when it comes to contract size/duration like you mentioned are definitely legitimate arguments. How about one more? Ticket sales. Having that extra bat in the lineup means more offense, which means more interest from the casual fans.
I love the strategy factor in the NL, and personally, I'd rather see the AL ditch the DH. Of course that will never happen though.

Who woulda thunk it?!? Prince to the TIGERS??? Talk about making my week! Sure it is a ton of coin, and everyone is bashing the length of the deal.... but in year 9 he'll only be 36. And it's evenly spread from what I have heard, meaning in 2021 he'll be making $23m/yr, which if he is DH'ing and hitting .275 with 25 hr and 90 rbi at that point - may look like a bargain. Alot of the pundits are also knocking his weight... but how many games has he missed in the last 3 years? One (Haven't checked that fact, but heard it on MLB Network).
Our defense may be terrible if Miggy plays third (Although he was never brutal at the hot corner, just a bit below average), but the offense will hopefully make up for it. Rick Porcello and his sinker definitely take a hit in the fantasy world, however, if that is in fact the defensive alignment they'll deploy.

Interesting reading back through this...
Now with Prince being dealt to Texas (Mike's call two years ago) all the same issues are still relevant. Except for Detroit, who I think wins in this deal big time (long term, and short term).
