First off – a big congratulation to Doug and the Tatooine Tusken Raiders on their first Denny’s League championship! That makes three different champions in three years (and 5 different teams in the championship series in that time), which I love to see. Joe gave it a good shot – and pushed the series to 3 games, but fell just short in the Brewers’ quest for a record-tying 5th championship.
Paul and the Hanover Head Hunters took third place in a two-game sweep of the North Carolina Pine Tar Sluggers . Mike’s PTS’ers had the best regular season record and was the odds-on favorite to take home the hardware, but was unable to overcome a late season slump.
There were 460 transactions made in 2012 – resulting in an additional $230 in the pot. That adds up to $830 total, minus $160 for CBS. So there was $670 total to be split up amongst the winners – and here are the results of that:
Tatooine - $327
Milwaukee - $188.50
Hanover - $106
North Carolina - $66.50
Marysville - $4
Raleigh - $4
Alexandria - $2
Carolina - $2
When transaction fees and league dues are factored in, here is the current state of finances. Red font and a negative number mean that you owe money, and need to settle up ASAP.
Tatooine: $300.50
Milwaukee: $150.00
Hanover: $96.00
North Carolina: $40.00
Alexandria: $15.50
Durham: -$1.50
Carolina: -$2.00
D-Town: -$10.50
Raleigh: -$13.50
San Diego: -$25.00
Chicago: -$49.50
Marysville: -$72.00
To settle up you can send me paypal @ cj15king@yahoo.com, or by mail @ 3309 186th Place NE #3; Arlington, WA 98223.
Likewise – if you won, please let me know how you would like me to settle up with you.
Doug, Joe, Paul, Quintin – Please let me know if you want any of your winnings rolled over towards next years entry fee or transaction fees.
Per the rules, North Carolina is required to roll his winnings towards next year’s entry fee, as Mike has less than 3 years in the league.
Changes for 2013:
At this point we are going to move forward with expansion. The details are still being worked out, as you know if you’ve been checking the Potential Changes thread. I have two new owners that have committed to joining the league, and this will allow us to also expand the playoffs to 6 teams. We will have two divisions, as outlined below, and each division winner will have a first round bye in the playoffs.
Here are the 2013 divisions:
EASTERN DIVISION
Milwaukee
North Carolina
Alexandria
Carolina
Raleigh
Durham
Expansion #1
WESTERN DIVISION
Tatooine
Hanover
Marysville
D-Town
San Diego
Chicago
Expansion #2
We will also move forward with putting a committee in place. It will be called the bullpen, and the three amigos will be Joe, Doug, and Mike. Their role will basically be as an enforcer. I will remain commish, and Kenny will remain co-commish. Kenny and I will remain the final authority on all things rules-related, while the ‘pen will be in there to help out with making sure rosters are legit, no illegal adds are made, things of that nature.
I think that we will also be expanding the minors roster to 5 players. I haven’t finalized the details of this yet – but I think we will move to a 5-1 salary, with an additional contract year. I will also begin using the Baseball America top 100 to pick for any teams that don’t make their picks in time or at all. This is not necessarily to benefit them, more so it is to keep the parity amongst the rest of the league.
We will also proceed with the extensions of expiring contracts at the end of the season – as was done last year. The period for extending any player with a “1” contract will be from 10/15 through 10/31. As was the case last year – you can extend them to a maximum of 2 more years at a cost of $5 per year. These players are also locked onto your roster as keepers for 2013 unless a devastating injury occurs. They may be selected by one of the expansion teams, however, if left unprotected for the expansion draft.
I believe that is all I have for now. Please continue the dialog about the potential and probable changes for 2013. I would like to have any and all changes decided by November 1st, so that the constitution can be amended and we can have a couple of months to prepare and adjust to the changes.
Lastly – I want to thank everyone for all of your activity and dedication to this league. It is my feeling that this league has turned into one that is extremely competitive and I couldn’t be happier about that. And that is a direct reflection on the great group of owners that we have. I look forward to the exciting changes, as well as the years to come competing with all of you. Hopefully you all feel the same, and will be members of this league for many, many years!
