I strongly feel we should keep waivers and FA agent pickups as is. Specifically, I think that a FA picked up should continue to be allowed to be kept for the next year. The $10 price (increase from $7) has just been implemented and not even tested. In addition, the use of 30 draft picks (instead of 35) will require keepers to often cost a 25th rounder instead of a 30th rounder which will make the keeper decision a little harder.
I also think that a reduced budget, is the true key to addressing the issue of too many FAs being kept (if indeed it is a problem). A reduced budget would also allow owners to rebuild in the manner they best see fit (FA keepers, minor leaguers, elite starts, or higher draft picks - their choice). Of course, that discussion is on a different thread.

I went ahead and posted the thread from CBS below. ----------------------------------
Chris King D-Town Diamond Dusters Aug 5, 2013 3:55 PM ET Free Agent Pickups Hey all, I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about FA adds, minor leaguer adds, etc. and how they affect keepers and the draft. The more I think about it, the more I keep coming back to the same solution: Make free agents non-retainable. In other words, and player picked up as a free agent would be released at seasons end. The way I figure it, that would do a few things: Eliminate the need to monitor pick-ups; Strengthen the draft pool; Lessen the amount of dump/rebuild trades (As there would not be a multitude of 10/FA players that can be dealt). A secondary option would be to limit the amount of FA’s a team can keep or extend to 2 or 3. With either scenario, any player claimed on waivers after being dropped would still retain his value as the rule is currently. Please note – if this rule is changed, it would be for the 2014 season. It would not affect those players already on teams as FA adds this season. Pros, cons, constructive criticism, thoughts, ideas?!?
Mike Fendrick - I like the FA wire the way it works now. We increased the price to $10 instead of $7 and I think we should see how it plays out. I do strongly agree, however, that the draft pool is too watered down. I think the true fix is to reduce the $250 budget allowed for keepers. Just the increase from 12 to 14 teams could warrant the reduction of the budget to $210 just to return the draft pool to where it was 2 years ago. I would be in favor of a more drastic reduction to $150 to $180. With the budget as it was we had an average of more than 10 keepers per team. In addition, I think the high budget allows for more top level trades which then results in top round picks being traded just to work down the draft order. Adjusting the dollar budget would also allow those that want to rebuild off the waiver wire to do so (since this can be the only way for some teams to build back up quicker. If there is still an issue (if indeed there is an issue in the first place), the FA salary (or the cost of extensions) could be increased in the future.
Joe Molinaro - to not keep a free agent is ridiculous....free agency is what makes you look towards the future and rebuild. I would hate to have high priced guys and see FA and not able to retain them. That takes the fun out of fantasy sports.
Joe Molinaro - by week 10 more teams will bail and go dorment when they see no payback with a trade for a guy who is a fa pickup or even making pick ups them selves. This will kill the league by week 14 when half the league is eliminated and has no incentive to trade or pickup
Jeffery Geithman Jr. - I like the idea but then our league will have less money in the bank...
Doug Lew - I like the way the league currently does the FA's. This is a keeper league, so I like to have keepers. Especially the gems I find on the FA wire.
Chris King - Fair enough - I've been convinced to leave it how it is. I guess my main beef is that its a pain to have to monitor all the transactions. CBS really needs to revamp their add/drop system to better serve the less vanilla leagues like this one.
Joe Molinaro - with having active owners in this league it is is very beneficial the way it is.
Mike Fendrick - I am still interested in considering a reduced budget for future years. The effect of expansion on the draft pool has not yet been adjusted for. I believe that this is a separate issue to FA extensions.
Aaron Tonning - I say free agents keep there contract and if they were not drafted then they are dropped
Kenji Kano - I think we should be able to claim free agents and keep them.

I like the drafted players the way it is.
I think that keeping free agents is a good way for teams that are out of contention to compete next year. I think that if you removed that, it would make it harder.

If we can't keep FA players, the trades will fall way off.

I agree with most of the above comments. I guess my only issue with FA's is teams potentially dropping superior talent to pick up marginal FA's, which gives the teams that are in contention added quality replacements should injuries, etc. strike. It's only a mild concern, though. Another option would be to limit FA extensions to one year instead of two, or possibly limit the pure number of FAs each team can keep to some number. Just thoughts for the sake of discussion!
