Adjust penalty for batter strikeouts. • Keep current rule for minus 1 point for strikeout. • Reduce penalty to minus 0.5 point for strikeout. • No penalty for batter strike out.

Are pitchers too strong? Is that why this was put up?

I think Jack summarized this issues very well in a post in one of the yearly rule change threads. It's not necessarily that pitchers are more valuable than batters. It is more indicative of a shift in the game in general. There are very few truly dominant hitters, while there are 5-7 very dominant starting pitchers (Kerahaw, Arrietta, etc). I would have to check, but it would not surprise me if hitters 5-25 were roughly the same value as pitchers 5-25.

My reasoning is that the game has changed. It used to be that strikeouts were avoided by batters. Now, some of the top power hitters are OK with lots of strikeouts - i.e., an out is an out. I hate seeing some good players not being in lineups because of strikeouts. After all these players are batting 4th or 5th in an MLB lineup and they should have some value in the Dennys League.

Locking this poll, as it has been mathematically decided.
