The Denny's League was founded in 1999, when 9 buddies got together and held the first draft at the Denny's Restaraunt in Edmonds/Aurora Village. Having a head to head league with nine teams was a bit difficult, so a 10th team was added, a "ghost" team made up of the best remaining free agents. The D-Town Diamond Dusters rolled thru the competition during that first season, and captured the first ever Denny's League Championship with a two-game sweep of the Emerald City Gold Glovers.
The Denny's League started out as a free league with nothing but bragging rights on the line, but as it became necessary to go to the online league hosting services for stats, a $20 league fee was quickly introduced. As stat services have grown in cost, the league fee will be a record $40 per team in 2007.
A few of the "Original 9" decided not to return for the 2000 season, so the league took to the internet to find some replacements. Unfortunately, those who took over the vacant teams were what one would call bad seeds, and colluded together to ruin the league. The commissioner shut the league down two months into the season, one that has since become known as the "Strike Season".
Beginning with the 2001 season, with a few new and solid owners in place, the Denny's League morphed into a keeper league. The Somoa HighChiefs shocked the world by taking the league championship that season, sweeping Chicago 2-0. This next year, 2007, will mark the first time since that there has been a total re-draft. There will be a whole new (And hopefully improved) set of keeper rules in place for the upcoming season.
In 2002 the Charleston Chew, the team with an admittedly cocky owner who everyone loved to hate, defeated the upstart Philadelphia Brawlers in another two-game sweep.
The D-Town Diamond Dusters returned to glory in 2003, winning their second league championship by sweeping the Carolina Mud Cats.
In 2004, the Emerald City Gold Glovers returned to the spotlight for the first time in 5 years, but again ran into the buzz-saw from D-Town, falling to the Diamond Dusters 2 games to 1. That was the first time in league history that a championship series has gone the full 3 games.
The Carolina Mud Cats made it to the championship series for the second time in three years in 2005, but the Diamond Dusters were waiting for them again, and as they did two years prior, the Dusters finished them off in two games to win their thrid straight DLCS (Denny's League Championship Series).
The Dusters and Mud Cats met up again in the 2006 DLCS, and once again the Dusters took the championship, this time in three games (2-1). Entering the 2007 season, D-Town has rolled off 4 consecutive championships. It has truely been a dynasty for the ages.
