TRADES

I feel like a broken record here, as it seems I am posting this same retarded post every year. There have been a couple of other teams (although it's happened to me as well) that have been proposing trades, only to have the team they propose them to either completely ignore it, or just decline it w/o any response. I know when I take the time to send out an offer, I don't just click a couple random names and send it over. I actually take the time to check out the other teams rosters, figure out what it seems their needs would be, and send them what I hope is a fair offer that would help each team. I personally get pretty annoyed, pissed, what have you when I put 15 minutes into a trade proposal only to watch it sit there for a week, or a few days later have it shot down w/o any reason given. If there was actually a decent amount of trade activity in this leage, then declining trades w/o reason would be all fine and dandy. But since there have only been 4 trades so far (three of which I was a part of), its pretty unsettling. For me, at least, the one thing that draws me to fantasy sports is the chance to interact w/ other people, talk sports, talk sh*t from time to time, and wheel and deal. Adding and dropping players is decent, but nothing is better than making a couple of trades and changing the look of your team. This is probably why I tend to lose interest in this league every summer. There is never any activity. In my AL and NL roto leagues, theres on average 2 trades that go thru a week, and when the trade deadline nears, there is at least that many each day. I have only recieved two trade offers all year, while I've probably sent out over 20. And not to talk sh*t, but I'm the one w/ the best record, yet I'm the one constantly trying to wheel and deal. It'd be nice to see some other people do the same. Your thoughts??

Good reply from Chris (Copenhagen Spitters):
Although I can totally understand your frustrations Chris, I would like to share my perspective on the issue. I know that I have been guilty of a few trade offers gone afoul and I guess I could have handled them in a better manner, but the way I look at it is this: You can't force action. I know we would all like to have a ton of trades and go through the year wheeling and dealing but you have to remember that it is early and some of us are still trying to get a good feel for our team. I know for me that is the case. All things considered, I feel like things have gone very well in this league in the first month. I know that in the future I will handle the trading process better, but in terms of trade activity it will happen. We all just have to be patient.

OK time to throw my 2 cents worth in. This is my 7th year in this year in this league. Probably the first 3 or 4 season's there was pretty good trade acrivity. Not just the number of trades but the quality of trade's and offer's and counter offer's. The Charleston Chew was a pain in everyone's backside but actually I am beginning to miss the guy the past couple of season's. But I would have to say the past couple of season's or so the trade front has gotten almost laughable. I'm not talking about the number of trade's but the offer's (if you want to call them that in some case's) and counter offer's. Most of the time they either leave me scratching my head or laughing out loud. I know a trade need's a starting point but the starting point need's to be in the same hemisphere. I don't claim to be an authority on trade's so I will only speak from my team's perspective. When I look to trade, I look at other team's roster or the "On The Block" and try to see what their need is and what their strength is. If I can fill their need and they have someone that can help me, I make an offer. I will admit to not making counter offer's and counter offer's to my counter offer's the past couple of season's and this season because I figure what's the point? Most of the offer's or counter offer's I get are for player's from the same position player they want from me but clearly a downgrade for me or they want to offer up someone that ride's their bench and hitting around .130. Just a waste of time for me. I agree with Chris that I would like to see an increase in trade activity and I also agree with the Spitter's that it is early in the season and everyone is trying to get a feel for what their team will do. My biggest thing is don't expect something for nothing and deal from your team's strenghth, rather than trying to unload a bunch of guy's that you don't want.
