I am pondering the idea of adding a consolation tournament for the 8 teams that do not make the playoffs. This tournament would determine the draft order for the following season.

Sounds good. But what is going to keep a team from sand bagging to get a better draft position? If you leave it where it is, how your record is, that may be more fair.

I don't think anyone would/could really sand bag to win the consolation tournament. If your team is good enough to breeze through the conso ladder, then you would more than likely be in the playoff race until the last couple of weeks. Plus, the conso team with the best record gets the #1 seed, and so on, so sand bagging would only really hurt you, as you'd end up with tougher matchups along the way.

Oh, are you saying the winner of the C bracket would have first pick? That would make way more sense and I would be down for that.
When i meant sandbagging, I meant someone would intentionally lose to get the best draft position. That is if the winner of the c bracket got the 8th pick in the draft.
Sorry for any confusion.

Yeah, winner of the conso gets 1st pick, 2nd=2nd, and so on. It would give guys some reason not to purge their rosters at the deadline.

While I'd rather see an expanded number of teams in the regular play-offs, a consolation tournament is something I think will help captains keep interest.

My only issue with expanding the playoffs is that it will result in either a shorter regular season, or we would have to do away with the best of 3 championship series.

I like the idea of a tournament at the end for the consolation draft picks, although I am partial to expanding beyond 4 playoff teams. Of course, the drawback of a consolation playoff is less time to set up my FF draft list.

I've changed my mind, I do have a preference - I like the idea of the consulation tourney. This would keep it move competitive I think.
